Do we expect too much from the Yankees?

18 division titles, 40 American league pennants, 27 World Series Championships which are all major league baseball records.  There are 44 Yankee players and 11 Yankee managers that have been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. But do we expect to much from this bunch of Yankees players? YES!! This group of players is not our fathers Yankees that was George Steinbrenner’s baby, the most important thing in New York. He dedicated his life to the Yankees and was only happy when they won the world series. Age and injury is one of the main factors that they will have to deal with over the next couple of seasons. The older a team is, the more prone to injuries. While they have been largely able to stave of the injury bug in the latter part of the decade, it has begun to catch up with them. It seems, finally, age will catch up with the 2013 version of the Yankees. Derek Jeter, our favorite Yankee, is coming off of ankle surgery and just won’t get back to where he once was. Alex Rodriguez is recovering from hip surgery. His replacement, Kevin Youkilis, will be 34. Mark Teixiera will be 33 and is coming off one of his worst seasons ever.  Manager Joe Girardi is gonna have to do one of the best managing jobs of his career, while getting the best out of these aging Yankees and keeping them healthy enough to make it to the post season. The Yankees will always have the money to get the best players in MLB, but something is really different.  The passion that the Yankee’s front office once had has been replaced by the Steinbrenner kids, who just aren’t their father.  Will they win? Yes.  Will they win another pennant?  Yet to be determined, but we have seen the last of the Big Bad Yankees.
