How Should We Feel About Micheal Sam

The land of the Free and the home of the Brave. This is the country that we all share. Micheal Sam made a decision that was best for him and it is nobodies business but his. I don’t understand the need for him to Come Out, but this is what he felt he needed to do. Even if you don’t agree with his lifestyle choice you must agree it is His choice and doesn’t have to effect you. With that being said, he has a tough road ahead of him. With the development of social media and attacks that are taking place on the internet, I really hope that Micheal Sam has tough skin. Not to mention that the NFL is not the easiest workplace in the world. The National Football League is still dealing with a situation of hazing in the NFL and players have mixed feeling on that. How will this be taken in Micheal’s case? Will it just be rookie hazing or will it become personal because he is gay? The sports locker room is a workplace like know other place, will he be able to handle it? I say YES!

Micheal Sam is a different type of person. He grew up in a dysfunctional family with 8 children and he found a way to make it out. He said living in his family environment was more difficult then “Coming Out.” Three of his siblings have passed away and two brothers are in jail. His father said that ” “I don’t want my grandkids raised in that kind of environment. “I’m old-school,” he added. “I’m a man and a woman type of guy.” As evidence, he pointed out that he had taken an older son to Mexico to lose his virginity. So playing football was a way to keep Micheal out of trouble and seemed to have worked. This seemed to a honest decision that gave him peace. For that I am happy for Micheal and hope that he has continued success on and off the field. I hope that Micheal is drafted by a good NFL team that has a strong support  system. Just remember Micheal that since you are the first to come out, all eye’s are on you. Good and Bad! The Media likes to build you up then tear you down. I truly wish you the best. But don’t forget your play on the field is what we will be cheering for.
